Silver Crescent – Coach House and period Apartments are located at Devon Place on The Crescent, Galway City.

The Crescent in Galway City is an elegant original old residential street of town located just around the corner from Sea Road, with everything in town So Walkable! Down along Sea Road, this quickly leads you into the heart of matters via the busy Dominick Street areas and ‘Latin quarters’ of town, where you will find many excellent cafes, restaurants, traditional Irish pubs, live music and most interesting explorations all along the way. In the other direction, you are remarkably close to the 10-kilometre walking trail laid on the seaside promenades of Salthill and Blackrock – an outdoor haven for thousands of Galwegians in their daily walk or run ‘along the prom’. What better way to start the day than a fresh walk, cycle or run along these promenades, and a pot of hot tea or coffee / Irish breakfast afterwards at one of the many nice cafes and restaurants in Salthill itself!

Arriving by Taxi from Galway Train or Coachbus Station: a 3- to 5-min drive, depending on traffic…

Please request the driver to bring you to No. 1, The Crescent – and trust us on this. DO NOT mention the words ‘Devon Place’ because many taxi drivers nowadays are not familiar with Galway City street-names, and will simply opt for bringing you to an area called Devon Park which is located ten minutes away out in Salthill.

Arriving comfortably at No.1, The Crescent: you will see signage just inside the front garden railing of this house that this is The Crescent Medical Practice – good job!  Just across from this please also see a new block/building called Hanley House, this again is good. You are almost at the Your Time in Ireland House located exactly at No. 3 Devon Place – and this is simply 3 houses ‘back’ from The Crescent Medical Practice – in the town direction, where you will also walk across the mouth of a small side street called Palmyra Park in coming to our Devon Place stretch on The Crescent.

With a 1970’s-style apartment block on the corner junction of Palmyra Park/Devon Place, trust us – Devon Place is this small stretch of 4 adjoining 3-storey town houses leading you towards Montpellier Terrace and around that corner – to Sea Road and the town centre.

Please now look amongst these 4 tall townhouses at Devon Place – each 3-storeys tall and each with an easily identifiable SMALL front garden (compared to much longer gardens at the front of houses further up along The Crescent). Please look for our house with the trim green hedge around the front garden – we’re the only ones with such a hedge just along here. You will also see a large nameplate embedded in this hedge for DV Mannion & Co, Chartered Accountants. And you will see our RED hall door with the number 3 on it – well done again, this is our lovely old period House at #3 Devon Place on The Crescent.

Arriving by car – all roads lead to Galway!

As you approach Galway City from all periphery roads, follow all signs for the City Centre via Galway Docks/Harbour. This will bring you to entering Galway on the sea side part of town down, and simply follow this until you are driving alongside the docks area (boats on your left side) – into a one-way system in the Salthill direction. The Crescent is a very well-known street just a turn to the right after Joyce’s Supermarket on Fr Griffin Road.  A full and detailed Location Guide will follow in our Arrival & Welcome information.

As you proceed along this brief one-way system you will come around a sharp 90 corner to the right, where (if there’s time) you’ll see Galway Civic Museum and Spanish Arch on your left side, and the PALAS Cinema on your right side. Continue driving along all this – to go over Wolfe Tone Bridge where you will quickly see Galway’s Fire Brigade HQ on your left side, and a glimpse of the old Claddagh quarter on your left side. Continue driving along: you will now be on Fr Griffin Road, and once again – on your left side, you will quickly see the Galway Technical Institute building – see GTI/Gretb sign high up on its facing wall. Continue along but careful now – just after this you will see the above-mentioned JOYCE’S Supermarket on your left-side. Look now for the Traffic Signal just after the supermarket, where you Must Turn Right.

This turn brings you onto a small stretch called Fr Griffin Avenue; simply continue along slowly now – across the mouth of Sea Road which you cannot miss on your right side. Once across this mouth, immediately now Slow Down, indicate to the right and pull over to park on the right-side footpath/kerb.  Trust us! – you are now at the brief Devon Place on The Crescent stretch –  4 tall terraced houses. WARNING – you have Driven Too Far if you drive past a new building called ‘Hanley House’ on your left side. If so, please turn back as soon as you can safely do this, and simply pull over across the street from Hanley House, to park up along the kerb/pathway – trust us, you are safely delivered to Devon Place on The Crescent!

By one of you stepping out of the car now, please walk to the laneway entrance running up and around the back of these 4 tall adjoining houses. You will see – at knee height – street nameplates for ‘Devon Place’ on the left side of the lane entrance and ‘Montpellier Terrace’ on the right side of the lane entrance.

At this lane entrance, walk back to No. 3 Devon Place – this is the terraced house with a full green hedge surrounding the small front garden, and look for the business nameplate of DVMannion & Co Chartered Accountants embedded in this hedge. This is our building – No.3 Devon Place ON The Crescent – come on in! Your apartment is located inside No. 3 and depending on the time of day, one of us in Your Time in Ireland will be inside to guide you to your apartment.

Unless by pre-arrangement, yours is a Self-Check-in and if so, please locate your key-set, the details of which we will have emailed privately to you.

Staying in the Coach House? – please return to the private laneway described earlier, and walk up along this, turning left around the corner at the top, where you cannot miss seeing the Coach House – a 2-storey private townhouse, painted white, with a plum-coloured hall door, and the words ‘Coach House’ engraved on some lovely old granite stone just outside the front hall door/front wall.

A small further note on our location at Devon Place on The Crescent, Galway City

The ‘Devon Place’ part is the important part to note!  this is a small stretch of 5 houses called Devon Place on The Crescent – and is not to be confused with #3 The Crescent, which is different house further up the street.  Important Note: many GPS systems do not have Devon Place as a location in their mapping system (we have no idea why!!); and many new taxi drivers are not familiar with local street names, often confusing Devon Place with a location out in Salthill called Devon Park. As soon as you see Hanley House, request them to stop the car. Otherwise, it will all take an extra ten-mins or longer with heavy traffic – and extra cost.

Locating our Car Park

Please drive slowly up and along the private laneway – as described above, remembering to pull in side wing mirrors for the early narrow part between the two old houses at the beginning. Everything widens out very comfortably after that first part.  Our car park is just across from the Coach House, with a capacity for 6 cars.  We request please that when parking – please ensure you park as closely as possible to the side walls, and as close as possible to the back wall of the Main House. And often, it is wise to reverse into the parking slot, so you can comfortably depart on trips and tours over the following days.

Are you staying in the Coach House?

 – please locate this at the back of our Main House at No. 3 Devon Place on The Crescent…

The Coach House is located up and along a small laneway directly off the Devon Place stretch of The Crescent. Once you have located our Main House at No. 3 Devon Place on The Crescent (read above), simply walk in the town direction for 2 more houses, and looking at the corner edge of the garden railings of the houses here you will see – at knee height ‘Devon Place’ on the left side house railing, and ‘Montpellier Terrace’ on the right side house railing.  This is the laneway entrance to the Coach House, and on waking up along this lane, you will quickly find the Coach House awaiting you: white painted, plum-coloured hall door, and the words ‘Coach House’ engraved in a limestone block on the front wall.

Local amenities on The Crescent

A large and superb Supermarket (JOYCES) is located at one end of The Crescent: on coming out our garden gate or exiting the Coach House laneway – simply turn left, walk across the mouth of Sea Road – onto Fr Griffin Avenue, and at the traffic signals just ahead, turn left – to find JOYCE’S SUPERMARKET just across the street. Superbly-stocked with fabulous fresh produce, greens, fruits, meats & fish – plus an excellent take-away deli counter – and an excellent – Wines, Beers & Spirits from Around the World section in there too, plus ATM point, Post office and Pharmacy in the immediate vicinity, you are extremely well-looked after for all your day to day needs while staying on The Crescent. Down along Sea Road just after the Jesuit Church & high school on the left side, you will find ERNIE’S – a marvellous gourmet store & specialist foods provenders – again, a superb array of fresh fruits and salad items, condiments galore, and the enjoyable prospect of a small chat with Ernie himself on world affairs if there’s time available in the day, ♣..

Is there a hairdryer at the unit?

Yes indeed, you will always find a hairdryer, a straightener, and a curling tongs in the ‘equipment basket’ in each bedroom.  We also leave some ‘antique’ towels there for when running a quick colour through that shiny head of hair, and do Please use these rather than our fresh Guest Towels for such tasks, because we really don’t like our fresh towels being run with chemical dyes etc; our humble apologies on this – and our deep appreciations! 🙂
